{apple & kiwi jam}

30

On New Year’s Day my mom and I met up to try a recipe that we had found in a cook book a few days earlier: Apple and kiwi jam. We couldn’t really imagine it would taste good but gave it a try anyways since it looked and sounded interesting. We were glad we gave it a shot — the jam is DELICIOUS! The right balance of sweet, sour and fresh fruit. Yum!

I’m partying here! ♥

    I used to make kiwi jam but never kiwi-apple. It sounds delicious! What is gelling sugar? We don’t have anything like it here in the States as far as I know. But I am definitely going to have to try and come up with a version using what we have here.

    Thank you for sharing! And your tags are adorable!

    • Thank you for your sweet comment, Peggy! :)
      Unfortunately I’m not really sure how jam-making works in the US. I looked up the German translation via Wikipedia and gelling sugar is what came up.
      It’s a mixture of sugar, pectin and citric acid as preservatives. I am sure you can use any other gelling agent though. :)

When we were over there, I remember looking high and low for shortening so I could make biscuits…I finally found this tiny can of it…that’s the hardest part of being an ex-pat somewhere and wanting to make a homecooked meal! You should have seen me when I found it…I jumped up and down in the store!!!

  20. Can’t remember seeing this combination before. But sounds yummy. I do a lot of canning, but very little in jamming. I will have to change that now that I have seen this recipe. You and your Mom seem to have such a great “kindred” spirit. You labels are quite beautiful. Thanks for sharing your inspiration at Sunday’s Best!

    I lovw the combination! Seldom do I put apples and kiwis in 1 recipe…The final color of the jam is greenish from the kiwi right? another thing, do I squeeze lemon into the apples after slicing or after grinding? Thanks!

    Great recipe idea, thanks for sharing!
    I’d never thought to try apple and kiwi as a jam… I made a variation with ginger pieces and lime zest instead of the vanilla and cinnamon which gave a lovely flavour too.

  29. I adore your labels! So cute! I just made pineapple kiwi jam, the apple sounds fabulous! Apple is such a great fruit cause it takes on a lot of different flavors. Love your blog!
