I am late publishing today’s post (it’ll be Saturday over here in just 2 minutes . .), so I better go ahead and post this beauty. :)
The flower I’m sharing with you today was a gift from my mom, which she bought for me when we took a trip to IKEA last week. I love it! To me the clivia miniata looks like a mixture between an amaryllis and lilies. So pretty!
A few facts about clivia miniata:
- Clivia miniata grow naturally only in Africa but are cultivated all over the world.
- Some common names for Clivias include Kaffir Lilies, Bush Lily, St John’s Lily and Fire Lily. {source}
- These plants were named after the Duchess of Northumberland (Lady Charlotte Clive) who first cultivated and flowered the foremost specimen in England. {source}
- In Africa, clivia miniata is valued for medicinal properties including muscle and uterine stimulation and pain relief. An infusion of Clivia miniata leaves is used to induce labor and speed contractions. Ingesting too much can overstimulate uterine contractions and cause complications. {source}

yes, it reminds me of an amaryllis too. it’s absolutely gorgous! Looks like you have it in soil, so hopefully the bulb will last. I have 3 or 4 amaryllis in the back and they sprout every year, but don’t bloom every year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for pretty blooms this season. Thanks for the beautiful floral Friday :) btw, LOVED that swanky cool hotel website. If the actual hotel was anything like the website it must have been incredible. xo, diane
