This is such a fun and easy project! My hubby, who is a total record nerd, came up with the idea of making record bowls. So, I love this project especially, since we got to be crafty together. :)
We found a couple of old (and free) records at a resale store and got to “work”.
What you’ll need:
- an old record
- an oven-safe bowl
- a baking sheet
- oven mitts or gloves
- an oven
How to:
- Preheat your oven to 210°F (100°C)
- Put the oven-safe bowl onto the baking sheet, facing down.
- Center the record on top of the bowl.
- Close the oven and watch the record until it starts to warp.
- Take out the baking sheet and, using mitts or gloves, press down the record
- Hold your record in place until it starts to harden.
- The record will cool very fast, so you need to hurry a little to shape it. If you’re not happy with the shape, just pop it back in the oven for a little bit and start over. :)

I’m partying here! ❤

Ohh, I’ve always wanted to make some of this great bowl, because I’ve got some records I don’t need (they’re from an old room where my boyfriend’s band plays music for practising — it used to be a club for maybe a group of teenagers, they left those records there and they’re totally unlistenable, because they were glued onto the walls…). Once I tried it with another technique (pouring boiling water on it and so on..), but it didn’t came out so beautiful, and it was difficult to do. I only didn’t tried the technique you used because I was afraid of making it in the oven… But, only a hundred degrees celsius, right? And there won’t be any problem. I think I’ll try again! :D
Ohh, thanks, Noemi! :)
You should definitely give this a try! It’s such a fun & easy project!
And yes, you should heat it up at 100°C, but watch it closely, so it doesn’t get too hot in the oven.
Let me know how this turns out. :)

Ohhhhh, my Beim Moselwein LP! I’ve been looking for that everywhere! (Sorry, couldn’t resist Vanessa.) That would be about the best thing you could do with that LP. Great idea!

Hahaha, Anne! That what funny! :D
That record really could only be saved by making a bowl out of it, hehe.

Oh, this post is going to be featured on my next Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop –January 30th. I LOVE this. When my son was little, his class in school did a similar thing with plastic drinking cups.l They took markers and made colorful designs on them. Melted them in the oven and poked a hole in the top. Christmas Ornaments! Beautiful. The fumes were a little much from the melting plastic. I imagine good ventilation is a must for your project as well. These bowls are lovely, Vanessa.
Thanks for linking up on today’s hop, BTW. See you Sunday!
