rosette waffles from {nifty thrifty things}

Aren’t those just the prettiest waffles?! They’re so delicate and beautiful looking.. And delicious! ;)

My mom and grandma discovered the rosette waffle iron hidden somewhere in the back corner of my grandma’s kitchen last year. She inherited it from her mom; my great-grandma.

They made these waffles for my hubby’s birthday (which was back in November), but I’m just now getting around to posting it. I hope you like them as much as I did. Yum!

{apple cake with streusel}

apple cake with streusel from {nifty thrifty things}

Sometimes I’m not sure if I really like Sundays.. Even though I do love sleeping in and/or being lazy on a rainy Sunday afternoon, it also means that it’s back to the grind the next day.. ;)

All the stores here in Germany are closed on Sundays, so if we get short-notice visitors on a Sunday (like we did a couple weekends back) and I want to bake a little something, I have to resort to what I have at home.

I make sure I keep the ingredients for this delicious cake at home at all times. It’s easy to make and SO yummy!

{holiday heirloom recipe collection — freebie}

Today’s post is dedicated to my wonderful Oma. As I mentioned at the {nifty thrifty sunday} linky party, she turned 90 this past Saturday and luckily I was able to go to Berlin to celebrate with her. We had a wonderful weekend, filled with family time and festivities.

My grandma was the one who introduced me to homemade eggnog. It has been a Holiday family tradition for as long as I can remember, and finally last year I actually gave it a shot to make it myself for the first time. Delicious and super easy to make!

My aunt and I actually made some homemade eggnog for one of the gifts to my grandma. She loved it! ;)

If you’d like the see the recipe for homemade eggnog, check out this amazing Holiday Heirloom Recipe e-Book that Gwen from The Bold Abode created. It’s filled with family heirloom recipes from 16 amazing bloggers. The recipe e-book is FREE to download!

{pumpkin soup with coconut and ginger}

There’s not much that I like about the cold season..
I do like warming up with a bowl of hot soup on cold day, though! And it doesn’t get much better than a deliciously creamy coconut-ginger-pumpkin soup.

I’ve made this recipe for years now, but never even wrote down a recipe. I always just kind of improvised. It’s an easy recipe (no need to even peel the hokkaido pumpkin), so it always turned out pretty delicious. This last time I made it though, I wrote it down so I could share it with you. ;)

I hope you’ll like it!

I love having friends with gardens. What’s even better than that, is having friends with gardens that have fruit-bearing trees in it. Especially when it’s delicious fruits like plums and apples!

Even though fresh-picked apples don’t look perfectly shaped and colored like the ones you find at the grocery store, they have SO much more flavor!
And you know for sure they’re fresh, as apples from the supermarket are sometimes stored for up to a year. Plus: You can be sure they weren’t sprayed with pesticides or have been waxed.
