{DIY cupcake stand}

Ever since working on this project, I knew I also wanted to make a tiny version of it; for cupcakes and other little cakes.

My mom found these cute little vases and had the tart forms on hand.
The rest was quick & easy - just the way I like my projects! ;)

What you’ll need:

  • small porcelain tart form
  • small vase
  • hot glue gun

Easy-peasy-1-step-how-to:

  1. Use the hot glue gun to attach the tart form to the vase. Done! ;)

{recycled: record bowl}

recycled: record bowl from {nifty thrifty things}

This is such a fun and easy project! My hubby, who is a total record nerd, came up with the idea of making record bowls. So, I love this project especially, since we got to be crafty together. :)

We found a couple of old (and free) records at a resale store and got to “work”.

What you’ll need:

  • an old record
  • an oven-safe bowl
  • a baking sheet
  • oven mitts or gloves
  • an oven

How to:

  1. Preheat your oven to 210°F (100°C)
  2. Put the oven-safe bowl onto the baking sheet, facing down.
  3. Center the record on top of the bowl.
  4. Close the oven and watch the record until it starts to warp.
  5. Take out the baking sheet and, using mitts or gloves, press down the record
  6. Hold your record in place until it starts to harden.
  7. The record will cool very fast, so you need to hurry a little to shape it. If you’re not happy with the shape, just pop it back in the oven for a little bit and start over. :)

{holiday heirloom recipe collection — freebie}

Today’s post is dedicated to my wonderful Oma. As I mentioned at the {nifty thrifty sunday} linky party, she turned 90 this past Saturday and luckily I was able to go to Berlin to celebrate with her. We had a wonderful weekend, filled with family time and festivities.

My grandma was the one who introduced me to homemade eggnog. It has been a Holiday family tradition for as long as I can remember, and finally last year I actually gave it a shot to make it myself for the first time. Delicious and super easy to make!

My aunt and I actually made some homemade eggnog for one of the gifts to my grandma. She loved it! ;)

If you’d like the see the recipe for homemade eggnog, check out this amazing Holiday Heirloom Recipe e-Book that Gwen from The Bold Abode created. It’s filled with family heirloom recipes from 16 amazing bloggers. The recipe e-book is FREE to download!

{simple felt iPad sleeve}

28

A couple months ago (after dreaming about it for about a year) I finally caved in and bought an iPad. I kind of justified the purchase by getting it as a treat for starting a new job and I have to say: I LOVE it!

All it needed was a little home to live in while I’m not there. So I bought some felt at the craft store and used a doily that I had purchased during one of the visits to the flea market back in summer. All in all it cost me about $2.50 to make. Have I told you that I love nifty & thrifty (and quick & easy!) projects?! ;)

What you’ll need:

  • felt in your choice of color
  • crocheted doily
  • velcro
  • thread
  • sewing machine
  • scissors

How to:

  1. Cut the felt to size.
    Width: 10 1/2 in (26,5 cm); Height: 17 3/4 in (45 cm).
  2. Sew the doily onto the felt (using thread in the color of your doily).
  3. Fold over the felt, leaving 2 in (5 cm) on top for a flap.
  4. Sew the two sides shut. I used a fancy cross stitch, just to make it more sturdy, but you can use any stitch really.
  5. To finish the project, sew velcro on the flap and front of the sleeve.
