{DIY fabric tape}

DIY Fabric Tape from {nifty thrifty things}

After creating my own washi tape a few weeks ago, I've been dying to try my hand on making my own fabric tape as well.
My mom also fell in love with the DIY version of my washi tape and we decided to tackle this project together during one of our craft dates. It was much to our liking: quick & easy. ;)

DIY Fabric Tape from {nifty thrifty things}

What you'll need:

  • Strips of fabric
  • Strong double-sided tape
  • Scissors
  • Paper clips

DIY Fabric Tape from {nifty thrifty things}

How to:

  1. Apply the tape to the wrong side of your fabric scraps. (Leave the backing on until you're ready to use the fabric tape)
  2. Cut the fabric around the double sided tape.
  3. Cut strips to desired width.
  4. Roll up the fabric tape strips and secure with a paper clip to keep it from unrolling.

    I too would like to know what kind of double sided tape you used, because I only have the thin Scotch brand myself. I am working on creating a book made of cardboard pieces and I need fabric tape for the edges. I would much rather make my own, so I can match it to my layout than try to buy it. Plus, I have had a terrible time finding fabric tape at all, and when I have found it it is way too narrow, this way I can customize the size of my strips. PLEASE post about what tape you used or reply in the comments. Thanks so much. I am now following you. I found your site through your link at A Glimpse Inside.

      Thank you for your sweet comment, Theresa! :)
      The double-sided tape I’ve used is made by Tesa. I am not sure they make that brand in the US, though.. If you’re looking for a strong double-sided tape I would suggest trying carpet tape. It’s pretty heavy duty and should definitely stick to the fabric. ;)
      I hope you’re having a fantastic day!
      xo! Vanessa

    Thanks so much for the wonderful idea. I shared this with my fellow quilter at our meeting in January for ideas on using our scrap fabrics. They loved the idea. I also took the time to place it on my blog as well. (with all links to you:)). I am new at the blogging so if there was something that was a no no, let me know. Keep up the great ideas!
