Welcome to this week’s floral friday!
The other day I went over to a friend’s house and saw that their beautiful japanese cherry tree in their front yard was blooming. I asked if it was okay for me to cut off a couple branches to share with you this week. Don’t worry, the tree is huge! ;)
Now, our kitchen has the scent of this wonderful cherry blossoms. Beautiful!

A few facts about the cherry blossom:
- The cherry tree is also known as sakura tree.
- The cherry flowers only bloom for about a week and only once a year.
- In Japan “Hanami”, wich literally means “flower viewing”, is celebrated each year and picnic parties are held underneath the cherry trees.
- In 1912, Japan gifted 3000 sakura trees to the U.S. to celebrate the growing friendship between the two nations. This gift was renewed in 1965 with 3800 sakura trees. They line the Tidal Basin in Washington D.C.

Donnerstag, der 28. April 2011 at 04:36Cherry trees are my favorite. I wish they bloomed all year long. A couple weeks ago when they were blooming, I was so jealous of my neighbor who has one in her front yard!
