To my shame, I must admit that I don’t have a so-called green thumb. Fortunately orchids are a pretty robust flower and don’t mind the occasional neglect when I forgot to water them.. It is in the orchid’s nature to flower for a few months and then lose all their gorgeous blooms and stay “naked” for a couple months before starting to bloom again.
- Orchids grow on all continents, except for Antarctica.
- The tallest orchid in the world grows as tall as 65 ft (about 20 m).
- The oldest documented orchid lived to be 100 years old.
- This one is a fun fact: The name orchid comes from the Greek word orchis, which means testicle. They’re named this because of the shape of their bulbous roots. (source)
