Happy Friday and welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!
I hope everyone is having a great start into the weekend!
The hubby and I are busy preparing for our big trip to Texas and I can’t believe that it’s only 5 more days until we leave. The excitement-level is definitely rising!
In the spirit of Fall (and Halloween approaching), I brought home some gourds for decoration. I know they’re not really floral, but they’re a plant and I thought some facts about them would be fun. ;)

A few facts about gourds:
  • Gourds belong to the same family as squash and pumpkins.
  • Many varieties  of gourds can float for more than 300 days in sea water without destroying the viability of the seeds inside. (source)
  • Gourds have been cultivated for thousands of years, for their usefulness as storage, water-bearing, cooking vessels, musical instruments and as ornaments.
  • Gourds were used as currency in Haiti in the 1800s. Today, the gourde is the standard currency of Haiti: 40 Haitian gourds = about US $1. (source)

I am in love with the gourds, and pumpkins for that matter, with all the bumpity bumps all over them. It must remind me of my teenage years, lots of bumps on the surface, but still something to offer on the inside:-)

I love that you found some really interesting gourds! I love fall so much, but I still haven’t bought any pumpkins. We’ll probably go try to find some this afternoon. It’s not autumn unless there’s decoration, right?

Perfect trick in time for Halloween! At first I was like… hmm… I don’t think pumpkins are flowers… Nice one :)
