Happy Friday and welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!
I couldn’t believe my mom whens she told me that her Strelitzia is in bloom! ..until she sent me those wonderful pictures of it! Beautiful!

A few facts about the Strelitzia:
  • The Strelitzia is named after the Meckenburg-Stelitz, birthplace of Queen Charlotte of England (source).
  • The flower is also known as bird of paradise flower.
  • The Stelitzia is native to South Africa, where it is commonly known as crane flower.
  • If grown from seed, it takes 3 to 5 years for a bird of paradise flower to bloom and it grows 3 to 5 feet tall (source).

    Beautiful–We live in Florida and have bird of paradise and the are taller than our house–because they never have that dormant season here.

    Oh, wow! I had an idea to grow a bird of paradise once. I bought this planter display that looked like a bird cage. I thought the irony would be funny, but I didn’t think I’d have the patience of waiting for it to bloom just to get to the punchline.

      Ich habe blühende Strelizien bisher auch nur im Urlaub gesehen. Wirklich toll, dass sie dieses Jahr bei meiner Mama geblüht haben. :)

    Just a gorgeous flower! We had the plant in our garden but it died before it flowered! Such a shame!
