{floral friday #42}

Happy Friday and welcome to this week's {floral friday}! I hope you've had a wonderful week so far and will have a great start into the weekend!

After what felt like rain for weeks straight, we are supposed to get some sunshine on Saturday and Sunday (though the temperature is supposed to drop..). So, I am really looking forward to the weekend and maybe some time outside, enjoying the sun. :)

This week's flower I'm sharing with you is the Calla Lily. I've been looking for some beautiful Callas ever since I got a "request" for them from one of my dear readers. A fantastic choice. Callas are strikingly beautiful and timeless. I love them and enjoy having them in my home.

A few facts about Calla lilies:
  • Though called a lily, Calla lilies are not really lilies.
  • The word Calla comes from the Greek term for beautiful.
  • The Calla lily roots are poisonous.
  • Cut Calla lilies last for about 4-8 days when cared for properly.
  • They're natives of South Africa, where they grow so abundantly that they're viewed as common roadside plants and are called "pig lilies." (source)

I'm partying here! ♥

    Yes, calla lilies are so elegant. No wonder brides use bunches of them as bouquets for the weddings!

    I love Calla Lilies, so beautiful. I can’t imagine them being roadside plants because they are very abundant. Also didn’t know their bulb was poisonous. Here in the Midwest where I live, the bulbs are dug up before frost. I store many bulbs, cannas, daffodils, glads, calocasia. I can’t wait to share with you some of my garden in summer. Thanks for sharing your inspiration at Sunday’s Best!
