{floral friday #52}

Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!
I found these little pretties a few days ago at the flower market and had to think of my sweet bloggy friend, Veronica, when I read the name — guess what it is! Veronica! ;)

A few facts about the Veronica:

  • Veronicas come in a variety of colors that range from white to pale blue and violet to ink-blue and pink.
  • Veronica’s common name is spiked speedwell.
  • The scientific name is epithet spicata which means “grows in spikes”.
  • The name “Veronica” comes from St. Veronica, who is said to have wiped the tears from the face of Jesus as he marched to Calvary. {source}

    I have the red Foxy Veronica in my flower bed, but it won’t be in bloom until late June or maybe July?

    So pretty. I have some of the purple in my front garden, too. It is a nice sturdy plant and stands up to the weather, too! xo Diana

    Love Veronica, and have a few in my garden. I loved learning that the name came from the women who wiped Jesus Face on the way to Calvary. I did not know that, I will never not think of this when I am looking at mine. Thanks for sharing your flower inspiration at Sunday’s Best.
