{floral friday}

{floral friday #65}

Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!

We went to the garden center a couple of weeks ago and I saw these cute balloon flowers. I just couldn’t leave the store without getting a pot of them and sharing them with you. I fell in love with the little buds that resemble hot air balloons and the beautiful blueish purple blooms!

A few facts about the balloon flower:

  • The scientific name of the balloon flower is Platycodon grandiflorus.
  • Depending upon the region, it is also referred to as Chinese bellflower, Japanese bellflower, or common balloon flower.
  • It is native to East Asia (such as China, Korea, Japan, and East Siberia) and bears big, blue flowers, although varieties with white and pink flowers are in cultivation.
  • In Korea, the plant is known as doraji (도라지) and its root, either dried or fresh, is a popular ingredient in salads and traditional cuisine. {source}
  • Balloon flower is used in traditional Chinese formulas to relieve diarrhea, constipation, bloating, low energy levels and damage from parasites.
  • The herb balloon flower is also used for its expectorant qualities to dilate the bronchi. {source}

I’m partying here! ♥

      Thank you, Lilly! :D
      I took these pictures in the afternoon. We live on the 4th floor and get light all day, especially in the kitchen. It’s hard to catch the right moment, though.
      Thank you for the compliment!

    I love balloon flowers. My own are blooming right now, too, but they are pure white. I guess I didn’t realize they came in any color except white! Gorgeous- xo Diana
