{floral friday #71}

Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!

We made it back home safely and are getting settled back in after our trip to Texas. We had a great time seeing all our friends and family, but are also happy to be back home and getting back to our “normal”.

I hope you all enjoyed the fabulous guest posts while I was gone. I am so grateful for this wonderful group of women that shared such creative and inspiring posts! ;)

The flowers I’m sharing today were a gift from my mom, when she came to pick us up from the airport. Unfortunately fall season is approaching fast and the lighting conditions weren’t the best, when I was trying to capture those pretty (what I thought to be Chrysanthemums) Dahlias. I hope you still enjoy today’s floral post. It feels good to be back to blogging after more than three weeks “off”! ;)

After reading a few of your comments, I realized that I had mistaken these pretty Dahlias for Chrysanthemums. So, I’m just going to give facts about both, hehe.

A few facts about Dahlia:

  • The dahlia is named after Swedish 18th-century botanist Anders Dahl.
  • The dahlia is the official flower of the city of Seattle. {source}
  • There are more than 30 species and over 20,000 cultivars of dahlias. {source}
  • Dahlia’s are a summer flower, and are available between June and October.

A few facts about Chrysanthemum:

  • Chrysanthemum is named from the Greek prefix “chrys-” (meaning golden) and “-anthemion” (meaning flower).
  • Chrysanthemums are the 13th wedding anniversary flower.
  • The flower originated in China and were first cultivated as a flowering herb in China during the 15th century BC. {source}
  • Chrysanthemum is one of the most popular flowers, next only to rose.

I’m partying here! ♥

      You were right, Andrée! ;) The two resemble each other so much, I was mistaken in my jet-lagged mind and thought they were mums, hehe.
      I hope you’re having a fantastic weekend!
