{floral friday #8}

I’ve been looking forward to this all week long! It’s time for another floral friday here at {nifty thrifty things}!

This week’s featured flower was given to me by my mom a couple days ago when I met her to go on a mother-daughter IKEA trip. Fun!
Isn’t the color of this beautiful hyacinth great?! I love the purple popping against the lime-green walls!

A few facts about the hyacinth:
  • Hyacinths normally only bloom in March and April
  • March 7th is World Hyacinth Day
  • The name hyacinth derived from the Greek word Hyakinthos, a young and handsome man who in the Greek mythology was loved by two gods, Apollo and the god of the West Wind. Hyakinthos was wounded by on of the jealous gods and was fatally wounded. The flower growing from his blood was named after him.
