Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!

These little pretties are growing on our balcony right now. I love the look and smell of lavender. Yum!
And look at that little bee harvesting nectar to produce delicious honey. They love our balcony since we planted the lavender. It’s great to watch. :)

A few facts about the Lavender:

  • Lavender is from the mint family Lamiaceae.
  • Lavender appears historically over 2,500 years ago.
  • The Egyptians used lavender in their mummification process.
  • The Greeks and Romans used lavender to scent their bathing water; in fact, the derivation of the name came from the Latin word “lato” or “wash”. {source}
  • The scent of lavender deters mice, flies, mosquitoes and other pests from the area.
  • Lavender oil can be used to soothe aching muscles and joints, reduce anxiety and stress, and to induce sleep.
  • Nectar from lavender plants are used to make high quality honey. {source}

    Pretty pictures! My neighbour has Lavender growing on the border of her garden and many people who walk by touches it and smell their hands. I suppose it is a smell people love.

    Lovely pictures! Lavender is so gorgeous. The facts are really interesting; I didn’t realise it was used in mummification or that it keeps flies etc at bay!

    I love this post! most scents are too strong for me but I love lavender and I love knowing a ton of random facts!!!

    Oh, how lucky to have lavender growing right outside your balcony! I recently visited a lavender farm for the first time … it was gorgeous!
