I love marzipan! It’s the perfect holiday season treat!
During our last crafty Wednesday, my mom and I made some scrumptious marzipan truffles for this year’s Christmas season. Yum!
They’re so easy to make and even more delicious than store-bought marzipan!

What you’ll need:
  • 200g (ca. 1 12 cups) almonds with skin (for a fresher taste)
  • 150g (ca. 1 14 cups) powdered sugar
  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • some rose water (you can substitute with regular water or some yummy booze)

How to:
  1. Bring water to a boil, remove from heat and add the almonds.
  2. Let the almonds sit in the water for about 2–3 minutes and pour into a colander.
  3. Press the almonds between your thumb and index finger to peel.
  4. Dry almonds with a paper towel before grinding them in a food processor.
  5. Mix the almonds and powdered sugar with a couple teaspoons of rose water (or other liquid) and knead by hand. Add more liquid until the consistency is ready to roll into little balls.
  6. Roll the dough into little balls and roll into some unsweetened cocoa powder that you sift on a plate.

    I made some of these last year, but that was with some left-over marzipan that had been lying in the pantry for a few months — I wanted to use it up before it expired… I am sure truffles made with homemade marzipan ar A LOT better! Yours look very yummy!

    Thank you so very much! I knew I could count on your for a recipe for marzipan. It is one of many things I miss from my childhood in Germany. The other is a truly good Bratwurst and brotchen!! You wouldn’t by any chance have a good recipe from a nicely crusted brotchen? All the ones I’ve found yield a soft crust…

    LOVE this! Your newest follower has a couple questions…since I am into shortcuts (lol) do you think I could use the Almond Meal (ground almonds) from Trader Joes instead of grinding my own? If so, do you know how much I would use? Thanks so much!!

    I made these, but had to third the recipe, since that’s all the almonds I had. So yummy! I want to dip some in dark chocolate now!

    Nice work! Makes a beautiful gift! I think this is a great year to be making gifts, rather than maxing out the credit card. By the way, I buy almonds already ground (with skins) at Farm and Fleet. I don’t know if you have them where you live, but the bags of ground almonds are SO MUCH CHEAPER than whole or sliced almonds. LOVE marzipan. I’m definitely going to use this recipe. Thanks for posting it! :-) (Stop in and see my Florentines recipe today. I used ground almonds for those too.)

    Oh wow! Never figured this was such a simple process! Thanks so much for the tutorial, I’ll for sure give that one a go. I always think of marzipan (and fondant) as like playing with play-doe. It’s a great, easy way to make something look that much cuter.

    Mmm, these look absolutely delicious!! I’ve been a HUGE fan of marzipan since I first lived in Germany as a young girl, now in Australia it is so very difficult to come by, this is a PERFECT alternative!

    Thank you so much, one of favorites. I did 5 or 6 tsps. of almond extract for my liquid. I am going to try dipping them in some dark chocolate. A little remembrance of my days working for See’s Candy. I love marzipan.

    I know traditional marzipan is with almonds, but can other nuts be substituted?

      I haven’t tried making marzipan with any other nut but almonds. I have heard of pistachio marzipan before though, so you might want to give that a try. ;)
