Yesterday, my hubby went out of town for the day. He went on a short trip to the Netherlands to meet up with a friend of his from Amsterdam and they met about half way in a small town called Groningen to have some man time.
So, since I’m still not back to 100% after being sick, I just decided to stay home all day and enjoy some free time in our apartment. ;)
Ok, I must admit.. I did start missing the husband a little and distracted myself by being a little crafty.
I folded about 150 lucky stars last night. Be careful, it’s very addictive!
I threw together a little tutorial, if you want to try it yourself.
What you need:
- paper in A4 or letter size, in your preferred color
- scissors or x-acto knife
- ruler
Cut the paper into strips. The width determines the size of the star. For the tutorial I used about 1⁄2 in. wide strips:
Start by tying the strips into a knot:
You’re on the right track if your knot looks like a pentagon:
Fold the little tail over:
Start folding the long tail around and around the pentagon:
Until you reach the end of the strip:
Tuck the end of the strip into the little pouch:
You’ll end up with this:
To make this pentagon a star, push gently with your fingernail on each side:
I even made a video tutorial to show the full process:
PS: It’s easiest if you don’t crease the sides of the pentagon too much when folding the strip.

Mittwoch, der 16. März 2011 at 23:05Oooh I remember these!! I used to live in China and was taught about these there. When my sister gave birth to twin I gave each child a jar of lucky stars. They are addictive but filling two rather large jars was enough to cure me for a while LOL

Samstag, der 10. Dezember 2011 at 11:36i love these! but whenever i try to make them, and kink the edges with my nail, the just collapse and bend:( what should i do?
Vanessa @ {nifty thrifty things}
Sonntag, der 11. Dezember 2011 at 20:12I’m sorry to hear that stars are collapsing when trying to kink the edges.
Make sure the paper is not too thin. Maybe that will help with the problem. You can also use a coin to push the edges in.
