{floral friday #13}
I was looking forward to this week’s Floral Friday for a while now to share my #1 favorite flower with you! Pretty much since the first buds were starting to show on my two orchids that had lost all of its flowers about three months ago.
To my shame, I must admit that I don’t have a so-called green thumb. Fortunately orchids are a pretty robust flower and don’t mind the occasional neglect when I forgot to water them.. It is in the orchid’s nature to flower for a few months and then lose all their gorgeous blooms and stay “naked” for a couple months before starting to bloom again.

A few facts about the orchid:
  • Orchids grow on all continents, except for Antarctica.
  • The tallest orchid in the world grows as tall as 65 ft (about 20 m).
  • The oldest documented orchid lived to be 100 years old.
  • This one is a fun fact: The name orchid comes from the Greek word orchis, which means testicle. They’re named this because of the shape of their bulbous roots. (source)

    Orchid’s are just beautiful. I love plants, but for some reason the Orchid scares me a bit. They look like they would be so hard to grow. After reading what you wrote, maybe I might give it a try. Thanks for sharing such a lovely and delicate flower.
