Happy Friday and welcome to this week's {floral friday}!
Do you guys have any fun plans for this weekend?
The hubby and I are dog sitting the possibly cutest dog ever today.
Let me introduce you to Pepper:
Okay, back to the floral part now.. This week I wanted to share with you, what I found at the flower market a couple days ago: Ornamental cabbage. I have never really thought about using cabbage as flowers, but it's growing on me. ;) The center kind of looks like a rose bloom and I think it would make for some great table decorations.

A few facts about ornamental cabbages:
  • Ornamental cabbages are perfect for bringing some color in your flower garden during the cold fall and winter months. The white, pink, or red pigments really begin to show with frost and cold weather. The plants will get great, vivid colors below 50°F. (source)
  • Once these plants become root-bound, they will not increase in size. Even when transplanted into a larger pot or into the garden they'll remain in the same size. (source)
  • The ornamental cabbage is a member of the Brassica, or Mustard family, which includes ordinary cabbages, kales, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, collars, kohlrabi, rutabagas, and turnips. (source)

I've not tried this, but I've heard that if you put food coloring in the water, they will take on that color in the lighter areas of the 'cabbage.' ??

we saw ornamental cabbage used in floral arrangements for the first time when we stopped at Pikes Market in Seattle. But lets talk about that dog, Oh my goodness…what a face. Make me think of my wonderful dog ( rip) she was a cockapoo. Looked similar to this one, She was a constant companion for 16 years. Hugs and sincere wishes for a beautiful weekend xo

Hi there, what an adorable dog. The cabbages make lovely fall decorations. Many people use them in their gardens here where I live. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris
