  • The flower is also known as bird of paradise flower.
  • The Stelitzia is native to South Africa, where it is commonly known as crane flower.
  • If grown from seed, it takes 3 to 5 years for a bird of paradise flower to bloom and it grows 3 to 5 feet tall (source).

Beautiful–We live in Florida and have bird of paradise and the are taller than our house–because they never have that dormant season here.

Oh, wow! I had an idea to grow a bird of paradise once. I bought this planter display that looked like a bird cage. I thought the irony would be funny, but I didn't think I'd have the patience of waiting for it to bloom just to get to the punchline.

Vielen Dank für Deinen lieben Kommentar, Gisela!
Ich habe blühende Strelizien bisher auch nur im Urlaub gesehen. Wirklich toll, dass sie dieses Jahr bei meiner Mama geblüht haben. :)
      Liebe Grüße nach Kanada!

Just a gorgeous flower! We had the plant in our garden but it died before it flowered! Such a shame!

Thanks for linking to a Round Tuit!
