{floral friday #43}

My mom collected these beautiful snowberries the other day in the park she rides her bike through on her way to work each day.
I love how sturdy, yet delicate they look. As kids, we would collect them and loved the popping noise it made when stepping on them.. ;)

A few facts about snowberries:

  • The berries start popping up during fall and persist through the winter season.
  • Snowberry is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, but part shade — part sun is ideal. It will grow well in full shade, but will produce better bloom and berries if it gets some sun. {source}
  • When eaten, snowberries can cause vomiting and dizziness. Despite their toxicity, Native Americans are reported to have eaten snowberries to settle the stomach after a fatty meal. {source}
