{floral friday #58}

Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!

The flower I’m sharing with you today I actually found at IKEA’s plant department a few weeks back. They have some pretty plants every now and then — especially orchids (which I can’t seem to get enough of, hehe).
This beauty in pink is called Tillandsia cynea. Also commonly knowns as pink quill.

A few facts about the Tillandsia cynea:

  • The Tillandsia cynea is also known by the name pink quill, air plant and blue-flowered torch.
  • Pink Quill is a member of the bromeliad family, and gets its name from the plume of bright pink bracts that last for months. {source}
  • The flower’s origin is Ecuador where they grow in their native rainforest habitat.
  • Tillandsia are epiphytic, which means they grow on trees, without taking goodness from their host. {source}

I’m partying here! ♥

      IKEA really sometimes has some interesting flowers! ;) Aside from the candle section, that’s where I HAVE to stop by when hitting up our IKEA, hehe.
      Happy weekend!

    Ah Vanessa! One of the first of your Flowers on Friday that I recognise. I love bromeliads and have quite a collection. I don’t have this one though but have seen it before. I love them for the hardiness, their beautiful coloured bracts or foliage. They grow well where I am in the sub tropics. Thanks for sharing. I would’ve hardly thought Ikea would’ve been the place to get them from. LOL

    At first I though the flower part was paper and the leaves were fake grass. Then I read more and its a real plant. Do all the ends of the pink park bloom into the purple/blue flowers or just here and there? Well thanks for shareing, God bless you and yours. 1205love@gmail.com

      The colors really look too vibrant to be real. But I promise, they are! Hehe
      The purple flowers bloom the whole way up the sides of the flower. Very pretty! :)
      Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Julie!
      I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

    I’ve never seen one of these plants before. It’s beautiful! We don’t have an IKEA in our area, but if we did, I’d be heading there to get one.. My only concern would be my 3 kitties. I’m afraid it might look a bit like a cat toy to them and I’d find it half eaten or shredded to bits. LOL Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos! ~Mary

      Haha, I could see your cats thinking it’s a toy in that hot pink. ;)
