{floral friday #66}

Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!

I have never heard of or seen this amazing looking flower before my mom showed me these pictures. The top looks kind of like a pineapple to me and the orange is stunning! I just couldn’t not share it with you.. ;)

A few facts about the Crown Imperial:

  • The flower is also known by the names Fritillaria imperialis and Kaiser’s Crown.
  • The Crown Imperial is one of the earliest plants to be cultivated.
  • This plant has a 3 week bloom period beginning in late spring. {source}
  • Christian lore says that Fritillarias refused to bow their heads at the Crucifixion but, in shame, have bowed them ever since. Even today, when a bloom is touched, it often drops a “tear,” or bead of moisture. {source}

I’m partying here! ♥

    Hi Vanessa.
    Just discovered your lovely blog today by chance.
    Crown Imperials are wonderful flowers, aren’t they? They are one of my favourites even though they smell a little foxy (as in the mammal !) and they really make a bold impact in the garden in Spring
    I’m off to read more off your blog.
    Warm regards.
