primrose from {nifty thrifty things}

Welcome to this week’s {floral friday}!

Today’s flower is the Primrose. We found them at the garden center last week and I just couldn’t pass on these pink beauties. They just scream springtime to me! Just the thing I need during these dreary & cold winter days.. ;)

A few facts about the Primrose:

  • The primrose is well-known as one of the first flowers of the year, indeed the common name derives from ‘prima rosa’ meaning ‘first flower’. It is a symbol of both the spring and of Easter. {source}
  • The primrose family (the Primulaceae) comprises almost a thousand species throughout the world.
  • It can be found flowering almost throughout the year but its greatest profusion of flowers occurs during spring. Remarkably, some can live up to 25 years. {source}
  • The Primrose is February’s Birth Flower.

I’m partying here! ❤

  1. I love primroses, but forgotten quite how pretty they are. I’m going to treat my garden to some of these, at the weekend.

  2. How beautiful! We are memorizing a poem that mentions the primrose and I have to show this to Brendan!

    We haven’t looked it up yet and he will love seeing this!

    Happy Friday, Vanessa!

  3. Yes, a very nice pop of color early in the springtime– I think it’s worth noting that these little primroses can llive for years in the garden or planters. I have one I bought in the spring of 2007 which is still with me! Too bad the slugs in this area find them so yummy…

  4. I’ve never seen such cutie! :) And it’s interesting for me that it’s (one of) the first flower of the year! Thank you for showing this for us! :)

    • Thank you so much, Noemi! :)
      I hope you’re having a great week! What’s the weather like in Hungary? It got sooo cold here these past few days. Brrr!
      Hugs! Vanessa

      • Oh, thanks Vanessa. :)
        Two days ago it was so cold here too, but since then, it’s rainy! Yes, we’ve got this strange weather, and it’s just bad. When we’re glad about the snow that beautifully covers everything here, comes this ugly rain…last night it was raining all night! Imagine how does that lovely snow looks like now…everything is just slushy… :( But now it’s not so cold.

        Love, Noemi

  5. I love this series of yours, Vanessa! Thanks for the info on primroses.! I pinned this to my Garden Inspiration board! :)
