Hello everyone! I am so excited to be one of the guest bloggers on Nifty Thrifty Things while Vanessa's on her Texas vacation {jealous}. My name is Kim and I blog over at Maiden D'Shade.

A little about me... I'm married to a wonderful man and I have two lovely daughters. One just turned 16 and the other is 8, which is hard to wrap my head around... they can't be this old already! Or maybe it's me getting older that's hard to accept? Anyway, I grew up in southern AZ, lived in TX for awhile, and now reside in upstate NY. All three are completely different worlds but they've shaped me into who I am. I'm a fairly laid back person. I love music. I blog about thrifty finds, crafts, decorating, food... those kinds of things. I love working with my hands, whether it's playing the piano, cooking, crafting, or techy stuff (I'm a bit of a gadget nerd). I'm also kind of an introvert so blogging is really great for me! I've only been doing it since May, so I'm still a newbie. Oh, and I drive a purple sports car. :) Random, as my daughter would say.

One of my most favorite things to do is go thrift shopping. I like to look for things I can give new life to, either as they were intended or use them in a new way.  I have a series on my blog called Thrifty to Nifty. They've been some of my most popular posts so I've decided to share some with you today.

I found a rather tall candlestick at a thrift store during the winter, and a finial type topper at Hobby Lobby on clearance months later. They were destined to be together!

Next: I found a candlestick holder with a hurricane glass. I'm 100% positive the hurricane glass was not original to the holder. It just looked silly that way. I switched the glass with a vase more proportional in size to the holder. I also gave the wood a new finish and ended up with something fun and versatile!

And third I have another example of combining two items to create something new.

Don't you just love things on a pedestal?

This next shot shows the above pedestal platter and the finial in action:

Hope you've enjoyed my project recap! I love the hunt involved in thrift shopping and then figuring out the possibilities each cast off has. I have a bunch more projects waiting in the wings and I'm excited to get to them.
Thank you, Vanessa, for having me over today! Y'all take care!
