{heart filled with joy! ..and polyester}

This hanging heart is a side project I did for another upcoming project.

{heart filled with joy! ..and polyester}

Materials you'll need:

  • fabric
  • sewing machine and thread
  • scissors
  • a piece of paper for the heart template
  • ribbon
  • pillow filling
{heart filled with joy! ..and polyester}
{heart filled with joy! ..and polyester}

How to:

  1. Fold a piece of paper in half and draw a heart shape. Cut it and unfold.
  2. Place the paper heart template on two layers of fabric and trace around the heart with a pen.
  3. Cut out the heart shape, giving a 1/4" seam allowance.
  4. To make this a hanging heart, fold the ribbon in half and secure with a pin on the inside of the top middle part of the heart.
  5. Sew both sides together on the drawn line. Leave open about 1 1/2".
  6. Cut seam allowance to the stitching at point of the V and turn heart inside out.
  7. Fill with a filling of your choice. (I reused polyester filling of an old pillow I wasn't using anymore.)
  8. Stitch the opening shut by hand.
  9. The last step is to sew the little bow on by hand. I just folded the ribbon into a bow for this step.

    What a cute little pillow. It's looks and sounds so simple. I'm going to try this, and put a few away to give as gifts for just that special little gift time.

    Sweet and simple, my favorite kind of project! I could see these as great little Valentines to leave on my friends' doorknobs next year. That's not creepy, is it? I think it would be sweet!
