Welcome to another floral friday! This week I decided to feature another beautiful and colorful flower - the ranunculus. I paired it with a few branches of willow catkin. I love the intense colors the ranunculus comes in and how robust, yet delicate, their round heads look with their great amount of petals. photo via flickriver: ranunculus bouquet A few facts about the ranunculus: the latin word ranunculus means "little frog". blooming season is in spring. the ranunculus species, when eaten fresh, is poisonous to cattle and other livestock. their bulbs … {click here to continue reading}

We're back home after a long weekend in Berlin and as much fun as I had, I missed all of you and my little blog bunches! It was my husband's first visit to Germany's capitol and my family's hometown. So, aside from visiting with grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins, we did some sight seeing. Saturday was a beautiful - but freezing cold - day and we visited a few sights. The Brandenburg Gate and Holocaust Memorial: Around the Museum Island at the Spree and the Statue of Liberty-Bear at the American Embassy: At Checkpoint Charly, the famous crossing point between West and East Berlin … {click here to continue reading}

I decided to not feature a real flower for floral friday this week since we're are going out of town and I would have hated for the flowers to only look pretty while we're gone. So I decided to make my own flowers and spent some time crocheting these little things. I found a small branch the other day and painted it (of course! ;) ) white. I used my newly acquired mini hot glue gun to glue the crocheted flowers on the branch. Now I have flowers that never wilt! And now we're off to the capital of the world!! Well, okay.. The capital of Germany. It's a pretty cool one, though! You … {click here to continue reading}

A while back I found an awesome recipe at Blonde Designs and had wanted to try it. When my husband told me he wanted to bake cookies for his class (he is attending German language classes), I finally had my excuse! Yay! So, we bought the few things we needed and got to "work". We decided on making Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies and Heidesand (I think it's similar to shortbread) Sea Salt Cookies. Both of them turned out to be super yummy! Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies: INGREDIENTS 1 cup butter, softened 3 oz. cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup sugar 1 egg pinch of salt 2 teaspoons … {click here to continue reading}

Last night I worked on a little 10 minute project. I was tired of looking at this (puke) green frame and didn't like how our wedding picture looked in it anymore. So I decided to just turn it white - one of my favorite colors to decorate my home with. The white color is the leftover paint I used for my type case project - white acrylic. Instead of covering it completely though, I just used a rough brush and only applied one coat of paint. Afterwards I used sand paper to roughen the look of the frame even more. I'm in love with my "new" picture frame! PS: The frame was one … {click here to continue reading}
